How much can I expect to spend for my matter?

This can vary depending on the type of charge. Some cases are more complicated and require more work than others and this is usually the main factor in the quote you receive. Another main factor to consider when hiring a lawyer, is the reputation, experience and specific skills of that lawyer.

At Faraj Defence Lawyers, a straight forward matter upon a plea of guilty with one court date in the Local Court, will usually cost between $2,000.00 and $3,000.00 plus GST. For a straight forward matter upon a plea of not guilty in the Local Court, will usually cost between $5,000.00 and $8,000.00 plus GST depending on what type of preparation is required for the case.

District and Supreme Court matters tend to incur more costs due to higher demand in preparation as they are for more serious offences. For instance, trials can be costly, however, we will work with you to try and offer you a quote you are comfortable with.

How much can I expect to spend for a bail application?

Bail applications in the Local Court will usually cost between $2,000.00 and $3,000.00 plus GST for all preparation and attendance.

Bail applications in the District or Supreme Court will usually cost between $4,000.00 and $6,000.00 plus GST as these applications require more preparation and are more complicated applications.

What affects my costs?

Your costs are determined based on the complexity and time required for your case. In some instances, issues may arise in your case that will require us to update your fees however, you can expect transparency and to be notified of this in advance should it be necessary.

Issues that may arise to affect costs include but are not limited to:

  • Requiring subpoena’s

  • Further evidence served by prosecutors

  • Requirements to attend a crime scene

  • Barrister fees

  • Further court dates

Do I need to pay all costs up front?

At Faraj Defence Lawyers, we offer our clients a “pay as you go” system in order to allow our clients time to pay their fees and not be in a position where they need to pay the full sum of money upfront.
